KATE LAWSON

Teaching

Kate’s pedagogical approach is has been shaped by her own experience with many excellent teachers, notably Rosamund Plummer (AUS), Thies Roorda (NLD), Rien de Reede (NLD), Michael Cox (UK), Walter Auer (AU). Her performing career also strongly inspires her teaching by bringing her into contact with some of the world's most outstanding musicians. It is Kate's belief that mastery of basic technique provides the foundation for personal musical expression, with sound production and physical awareness being pre-eminent  for flutists. Development of posture and sound production are integral to her teaching of both flute and piccolo.

She believes that every child has the ability to play music and hopes that a positive beginning with music may encourage children towards a lifelong engagement with the arts. Kate has a wide range of teaching experience with students of all ages and levels from beginners to advanced tertiary students. Online lessons are also available.
