Kate’s pedagogical approach is heavily influenced by her own experience with many excellent teachers, notably Rosamund Plummer (AUS), Thies Roorda (NLD), Rien de Reede (NLD), Michael Cox (UK), Walter Auer (AU). Her performing career also strongly inspires her teaching by bringing her into contact with many outstanding musicians from all over the world. It is Kate's belief that mastery of basic technique provides the foundation for personal musical expression, with sound production and physical awareness being the pre-eminent factors for flutists. Development of posture and sound production are integral to her teaching.
She believes that every child has the ability to play music and hopes that a positive beginning with music may encourage children towards a lifelong engagement with the arts. Kate has a wide range of teaching experience with students of all ages and levels. Several former younger students have gone on to study music at a tertiary level and Kate is also experienced at teaching conservatorium level students.
